Leon Johnson, patriarch of the legion. Presentation.

Views on the project Leon Johnson

The project of Leon Johnson, including the phases of concept, design and modeling of the miniature were key to Txarli Factory because it is our first challenge outside of the Fantasy Football universe. We did not want to stay bound to Fantasy Football since the very conception of the company, but so far all our projects were related to Fantasy Football because is something we love, and that offers tons of possibilities. However, we wanted to step out of Fantasy Football, we wanted to experience new fields in modeling, atmosphere and gaming style, and we thought going for an iconic, big stand-alone miniature would be a great first step out of our comfort zone.

Once we had decided that our next projects will not be related to Fantasy Football we wanted to give ourselves the opportunity to create a feature miniature. Something that would help us showcase our “savoir faire” and will challenge us to push our skills in miniature concept and design. Accordingly, we decided to go for a very powerful, enigmatic and controvert character from one well known gaming universe and novels lore. Later on we will keep on designing board games and the design efforts will have to split between miniatures, rulebook and game components, but this time it is all about the miniature itself.

Once the project was underway we followed the steps of concept design, art, modeling and 3D design that we have always applied, but in this case we took somehow better care as it is only one miniature, not a whole team of Fantasy Football. You can see the evolution of the project across the different pictures and images in this post.

The Kickstarter Campaign will start on March 26th and will offer interesting advantages to the backers on top of the reduced price. Leon Johnson is a patriarch and a field commander that holds a sword on his left hand and a combat shield on his right. Additional options like a bolter and the winged helmet will be available for the backers of the campaign. So far we haven’t even decided how many units we will produce for retailing, but it can be that they won’t be a lot. Also, the extra components like helmet and bolter could maybe not reach retailing production and will only be sent to the campaign backers. The scale we chose is the 70 mm typical size for the rest of Patriarchs created to this day.

Prices will be around the 40€ and production and shipping are planned for July 2018.

We are very excited about this campaign and we hope you guys will love it as well. Send us an email to info@txarlifactory.com to let us know what do you think about our Patiarch, how would you improve it and if you'd like to receive our newsletter with our latest news and blog posts. You will be the first ones to know about early birds, special offers, and all sorts of exciting news !

Hail the Leon !

In these images a broad part of the concept process is shown. During this phase, the aesthetics, pose and main artistic elements were defined. We decided to set the miniature in such a commanding pose due to the mastery of Leon in tactics and battle strategy. We wanted to represent his leading skills and assertive pressence in the battlefield.

The art process can be also tracked on its evolution through these images...

Final look of the Patriarch's miniature. He'll be casted in high-detail resin and will feature plenty of details, ornaments and will also include personalization elements for the campaign backers !

So the jokes can stay. All that said, I'm probably buying it. But shouldn't the sword be in his right hand?

    Txarli Factory (Thursday, 15 March 2018 12:44)

    Beloved Imperial Citizen,
Yes, the real Txarli Factory team here. All genetically modified Startes warriors are ambidiextrous, therefore grabbing the sword with one hand or the other should not make any problem for Leon.

Ah, I see, thank you. Looking forward to see it on kickstarter. Good luck with the project!

    Ordo Copyriticus (Thursday, 15 March 2018 12:53)

So who did Leon and his Startes Warriors fight with during the Huros Rebellion? Is the Bolter Gun or the Chainsaw Blade their favourite weapon? Will we be seeing his personal bodyguard of Knights of the Inside Square? What are their thoughts on Plasmatic Rifles? When will Leon and Lemon Ross kiss and make up?!

I am looking forward to meeting you on the fields of the Kickstarter campaign. Thank you for your interest and support and excited to have more of your joking around here or facebook site.

    Official communication release:

    Dear Imperial Citizen,
May the God Emperor bless your path to the fields of Kickstarter. Looking forward to meeting you there. As I am the local stelar Authority I declare allowed and encouraged your joking style.

    Dear Ordo Copyriticus,
As of today we have projected this enigmatic and powerful character as a stand-alone miniature, as we do not intend to pursue momentarily further exploration of this fictional universe. Moreover, we already have undergoing efforts for the development of our own board game for the next months to be released. Still, in the future we might decide to return to this fictional universe because we had loads of fun conceiving, designing and modeling this miniature.

    Txarli Factory (Thursday, 15 March 2018 13:14)

Concerning your particular questions here is what we have been able to gather so far:

    1. Bolter Gun, most likely. As a Capitule that takes pride in being silent, difficult to read and misterious, we do not think is very likely that a noisy Chain Blade will make it as the prefered piece of equipment. Plasmatic Rifles and their sweet, almost wispering sound are much more of the Obscure Angels preference.

    2. It appears that Leon chose a Spa to meet with the Wolf. The unkept savage had troubles making his way though the estabilshment avoiding any contact with water and left the place, not making it to the meeting. We assume when the unciviliced will trim down his manners, a productive conversation and potential agreeent could be reached.

Here's my question: is this just some collectible or is it intended to be used with an already existing game?

  • #30

    Txarli Factory (Monday, 19 March 2018 10:00)

The model will measure 95mm, 75mm from head to foot. Everyone can decide whether to use it only as a collectable miniature or use it in a game.

    Inquisitor Daniel (Tuesday, 20 March 2018 23:23)

Ok so that begs the question: why would bother risking GW's copyright claiming wrath when you could just name everything different than what 40k has? Seriously its a thinnly veiled aping of Lion El'Johnson. By the emperor's golden balls Leon means lion and you even kept the same last name! Its the laziest attempt to pass off as your own work ever.

  • #32

    Txarli Factory (Wednesday, 21 March 2018 11:49)

Inquisitor Daniel, why are you so bothered with what GW's could or couldn't do? Are you going to heritage GW? What kind of motivation leads you to try to frighten and discourage attempts to make the hobby better, deeper and richest?

We have come up with an excellent miniature that tries to offer components of a sci-fi warrior mixed with gothic elements. No one owns those elements for itself. The name brings you the thought of other company's work? That is your own association, since both name and surname exist in real life. Do you even know where did GW get inspired to come up with that name you say? To me, we are making a reference to Leonel Johnson, British poet.

Now, the real question is, why do you seem to bother so much for something that isn't even yours and express it so insistently and annoyingly?

  • #33

    Robert Gullimun (Wednesday, 21 March 2018 22:05)

Bruh GW sued some dudes over Pauldron size. PAULDRON SIZE. AND WON! When they get wind of this you guys are gonna go down faster than a North Korean missile.
